Mending Men ”

January 2010

Happy New Year!  We had a great Christmas!  Thank you for your thoughtfulness and support as you really made it a very special time for all of the boys and families here at Boys Farm.

I cannot tell you how important and memorable each gift, meal, and fellowship you have shared with us really is.  You are truly shaping these children’s lives in such a positive way.

During the Christmas break, one of our younger boys, Joseph, played Tiny Tim in Dickens’ classic tale of greed and redemption, “A Christmas Carol,” at the Ritz Theater in downtown Newberry.  When I think of this classic piece of literature and how Scrooge slowly transforms, certain themes standout such as the importance of spiritual growth, the role of memory, and the importance of family.

These themes play a big role in the lives of all people, but especially in those lives of hurting children.  So the question I have is what do we do, what role do we play in making a difference?

During a Christmas reunion, a close family member of mine mentioned that we are tools in God’s hands.  We can be tools used to build, destroy, or simply be left on the shelf unused.  How we live daily defines how effective of a tool we are.

You already make a big difference by supporting this ministry, and we cannot thank you enough for doing your part; but can I respectfully challenge you to do even more if you are able?  During this economy we need your financial support more than ever, but we covet your prayers and encouragement even more.

Please pray for us that we are strong and humble enough to understand how to be the most effective tools in shaping these boys lives.  Looking forward at 2010, my hope is that we each are used effectively in our different functions, but that we all work together in the body of Christ to the fullest of His will.
