March 2010

I want to take this opportunity to share with you 3 exciting things happening here at Boys Farm this month.  But before I do, I want to let you know that we will be commemorating Boys Farm’s 50th Anniversary during Founders’ Day on April the 18th, so please mark your calendars!

Under the leadership of Houseparent Matt Miller, we have started a new recreation and Athletic Program at Boys Farm. Matt is really working well with the boys here on campus and Newberry College has also been involved in such a positive way.  The boys are loving it!

On Friday, we went to a recent alumnus’, Brandon White, graduation of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.  In addition to serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the National Guard, he is now also serving as a Police Officer for the Greenwood Police Department, so watch your speed when driving through Greenwood!

Bear with me on this last one because it’s quite interesting.  “Letters to God” is a new movie by David Nixon, one of the producers of both “Facing the Giants” and “Fireproof,” the #1 independent film of 2008.

“Letters to God” is based on the true story of an 8 year old boy dealing with brain cancer and how through his prayers to God in the form of letters, he lifts the spirits of others and changes the lives of those around him.  It is a story about cancer AND a story of hope! The movie is being released in 750 theaters nationwide on April 9, 2010.

However, through the help of one of our Board Members, Russell Cook, Boys Farm will be showing the movie on March 25 at the Newberry Opera House as a Sneak Peek VIP Screening Benefit for Boys Farm.  If you would like to see the movie 2 weeks before the premier or can help sponsor this fundraiser event, please contact us at 803-276-5910.  You can also honor family or friends with cancer while at the same time helping children at Boys Farm.
